WV Board of Nursing Approves HEALTHeWV Training
January 2009
The West Virginia Board of Nursing has approved the HEALTHeWV clinic process based training for eight contact hours. A contact hour is defined as 50 minutes of participation in a board-approved nursing continuing education class or activity conducted by a qualified healthcare professional. One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) equals ten contact hours. Twelve contact hours must be obtained annually to renew an RN license in the state of W.Va. HEALTHeWV is able to offer the training for contact hours through a partnership with West Virginia University’s Office of Health Services Research. Dr. Mazharullah Shaik, Executive Director of the program, says “To the best of my knowledge, we are the first EMR/EHR program that offers contact hours for nurses and nurse practitioners participating in EHR training.” The training will help the HEALTHeWV program grow by attracting more healthcare professionals. Shaik adds, “Nurses will benefit because they can obtain contact hours in the comfort of their clinic. This will help clinics save time and money by cutting down on travel and related expenses.”
