Ripley Family Medicine, a subdivision of Wirt County Health Service Association (WCHSA), in working with the Coplin Clinic, River Valley Health and Wellness Center as well as the School Based Health Clinic at Ripley High School, has been 99% electronic since it opened September 3, 2007. I have had a lot of success with HEALTHeWV. Electronic health records allow me to track my patients’ progress from the first encounter through subsequent visits. The only charts we have in the office are from transferring patients.With continuous updates to the system, it becomes easier to use and more user-friendly. It is nice to be able to customize the tabs in the progress notes to make the note flow with the patient encounter. The only problems my office staff and I have had are not due to the application itself, but to the down time and speed capabilities of the internet service provider. One of the most beneficial aspects of the program is knowing when I am out of the office on maternity leave, my support staff will have access to my notes. If they have any questions, I will be able to access patient notes from home and provide feedback. I believe that the program makes the office run more efficiently because staff does not have to pull charts to check on medication refills, treatment plans, and questions about referrals and lab results. I can honestly say that I am pleased with the way that HEALTHeWV has helped with the continuing success of my office, Ripley Family Medicine.
